Installing Joomla and MAMP on a Mac

Working on the localhost of your computer has several advantages, one of them is speed, you won't be bound by your internet connection and your hosting server speed.

Another advantage is having two copies of the website in two different locations, one on the localhost of your computer and another on your hosting server, this is very useful specially if you make a mistake on the code and the website disappears or gets corrupted, then you can simply restore the site in minutes instead of spending hours looking for the error.

The first step is downloading a version of Joomla 2.5 of 3.0 from the following link Joomla Download

We also need to download a version of MAMP if you work with Mac of WAMP if you work with PC.
MAMP/WAMP is a program package that allows to run dynamic web pages on the computer by creating a webserver.
It uses a combination of programs Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, PHP (MAMP). Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP (WAMP)

How to Install MAMP Instructions:

1. Use Firefox, Chrome or Maxthon

2. Go to Download MAMP 

3. Download the personal version of MAMP (Grey Icon)

4. Locate Mamp on your Applications/MAMP

5. Open MAMP

6. Open MAMP Preferences

7. Click on the Tab Apache

8. On Document Root Select your Sites Folder (if you do not have one, create one on your user home folder and select it)

9. Go to the Ports Tab

10. Change Apache 8888 to 80

11. Change MySQL 8889 to 3306

12. Click OK

13. Start the Server (Make sure you have Apache and MySQL both green lights)

How to Install Joomla Instructions:

1. Go to Download Joomla

2. Download Joomla

3. Unzip Joomla and drag the folder to your Sites folder

4. Name the folder with your website's name

5. Go to a Browser (Firefox, Chrome or Maxthon)

6. Type localhost/yoursite's name hit enter or return

7. You should be on the installation window, next select your language and click next

8. Make sure that everythng is green on this window if so click next

9. This should be the license window, click next

10. The Database Configuration window, select Database Type 'MySQL', the localhost leave it as 'localhost', username type 'root', password 'root', Database name type the name of your Website or wahtever name you wish to call your Database, click Next

11. FTP Configuraton SKIP, click Next

12. On this window type your site's name your email and password, confirm your password and 'make sure to install the sample data', click next

13. Remove the installation folder

14. "Joomla has been succesfully installed"

15. Proceed to your site 'localhost/yoursite'

16. To access the back end open another tab and type 'localhost/yoursite/administrator' enter your username and password'

Probable causes listed below:

1. Youtube username or Playlist is not valid with your selection. Please set the parameters correctly from module manager

2. It might also be a problem with CURL library or your server config
